if you didn’t know….
Jon More and Matt Black, aka Coldcut, the original trip-hop/electronica remix wunderkids founded Ninja Tune in 1990, and since then, have established themselves as fundamental innovators of electronic music. In light of their 20th anniversary, Ninja Tune has created a compilation of hard-to-find rarities. The set is comprised of three hardcover cases in a hardback box with foil-blocked text. Case one includes six CDs of new releases. Case two contains six singles of new material along with a Ninja Tune family tree poster by Nigel Peake. Finally, case three features an exclusive hardback edition of Black Dog publishing book, Ninja Tune: 20 Years of Beats and Pieces, by Stevie Chick. Every box set comes with special codes for freebies.
The artist line-up is impressive; there is new music by Amon Tobin, Roots Manuva, King Geedorah (MF Doom), Eskmo, Mr Scruff, The Bug, Zomby, Toddla, The Heavy, Kid Koala, Jammer, Floating Points, along with new remixes by Switch, Modeselektor, Cut Chemist, Diplo, Gold Panda, Benga, Micachu, Autechre, and Scuba – just to mention a few. Ninja Tune XX encompasses both upbeat pieces as well as experimental, more mellow styles and include mixes that would otherwise be impossible to find.
Only 3500 Ninja Tune XX box sets have been produced, and a lot of those have already been sold. You can order a copy from the Ninjashop.
For their birthday, Ninja Tune is throwing a free event celebrating 20 years of incredible Ninja music on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 1015 Folsom. For a full listing of Ninja Tune’s 20th anniversary celebrations, visit their events page.
