FREE DOWNLOAD – David Starfire – Sitarfire

I had been aware of the artist who called himself David Starfire for a while (mostly through a hot series of bootleg remixes he had done for people like Punjabi MC, Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn & Led Zeppelin) when his demo arrived in the mail with a recommendation from our mutual friend Lorin Bassnectar. While we already had a substantial roster of South Asian fusion artists, there was something about Starfire’s “bass-centric” approach that mixed elements of glitch, dubstep and breaks that really hit the spot for me as a listener. As a result of that demo, we released David’s Bombay Beatz EP as part of our digital only “Emerging Artists series. Here we are in 2010 and Starfire’s new full length, Bollyhood Bass is the first new Six Degrees release of the new decade. David continues to develop his own unique take on Global Fusion on this record but I think his musical growth is all over the grooves. The bass is phatter, the glitch is glitchier, the melodies are more melodic and there’s more than a few surprises thrown in to keep you on your toes. (A cover of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude?)

This free download of Bollyhood Bass’ opening track “Sitarfire” is a great introduction into the world of David Starfire. Be sure to crank it up for maximum effect.
